A little rant...

Okay, so I know this is silly and not exactly blog worthy but hey- "it's my blog and I'll post if I want to!" :) There is a professor at Mason who teaches right before one of my classes. Everyday when we enter the room, the board is erased except for a quote that he apparently writes on the board before each of his classes. The thing that is crazy is that he spells a word wrong about 50% of the time! So far I've seen "rymes" instead of "rhymes" and "locamotive" instead of "locomotive" etc. I know this is nit-picky but it REALLY annoys me that a college professor is not only spelling words wrong on a regular basis, but that he is PURPOSELY leaving these misspelled quotes on the board for all the other classes in the room to see! Am I being silly and overly critical or is it okay that I expect more from those providing us with higher education?

Wait a minute. Are you saying that you or someone tells him the correct spelling, yet he still refuses to update the quote? If so, that is just plain weird.

Yeah, Allie, that's a problem for me too. Bit pet peeves for me also include: "their" or "there" for "they're", "your" for "you are", etc. Know what I'm sayin'? Get it right, people!! Especially if you are a college level prof!!!

*I should have said that I have not attempted to correct him. I've never met him since he teaches the class before mine. I did almost correct it with a red dry erase marker but figured that was crossing the nit-picky line. :) I imagine either his entire class is comprised of spelling failures or they are just too nice to correct him. By the way, Rach, I share your same pet peeves! Oh and ending a sentence in a preposition, especially "at".

This happened to me with a "professor" at NOVA when I had to take that stupid study class that was required. The counselor who taught the class was constantly using words incorrectly and spelling words wrong on the blackboard.

How can anyone at the college level not know that "through" and "throw" are not interchangable (not even rHyming words!), or "loose" is not "lose". Urgh.

I wonder why another professor doesn't say something to him? Maybe you should take a dry erase marker and correct the words so when he returns to erase and begin again he will see what he spelled wrong!

BTW- This is a PERFECT blog topic. Seriously, you should see some of the oddball stuff I've posted on my blog. :-)
